February 2016

I’ve found that YouTube Cards now offer a poll/voting system. You finally get a say in which project gets done next! With my excellent camera and newly found skills, we will make this the best anything ever. Does that even make any sense? Probably not. You decide! :P Continue reading

What on Earth are these things? I found a collection of strange little bugs making a meal of the leaves on a privacy hedge. I had absolutely no idea what they were at the time, but they turned out to be bagworms of some description. Unfortunately, they were doing a... Continue reading

It looks like PSIO will be “Re-Available for Pre-Ordering March 1st 2016.” That’s only a couple of days away, and for once it’s in Australian time zones! Woohoo! I wasn’t sure what the “re-available” bit meant. I could have sworn I’d seen a 1st February pre-order date before it flicked... Continue reading

Here’s a little infographic on circuit bending the Mega Drive / Genesis Model 2, originally from Gijs at gieskes.nl. You can get some wonderfully broken graphics out of the VRAM. Maybe I should do another video - if only it also broke the audio… actually, I did mess around with... Continue reading

A quick look at programming PIC microcontrollers with Mayumi 4 or MultiMode3 modchip code. I was experimenting with PIC12C508, PIC12C508A and PIC12F629 devices, with the intention of making a modchip for a PAL Sony PlayStation using a PU-22 motherboard. I’ve somehow accumulated quite a collection of programmers, although getting any... Continue reading

CDN means Content Delivery Network. They are marvellous things! Putting Cloudflare in front of this little Raspberry Pi web server sounded extremely useful. For web records configured through Cloudflare’s proxy, visitors connect to Cloudflare first rather than directly to the origin server. Cloudflare can then cache suitable content, filter traffic... This is the Mayumi 4 installation I used with a PIC12C508A on an SCPH-7502 PlayStation with a PU-22 motherboard. There are eight solder points in total. The mode sequence is: Strongest Mode -> Old Modchip Mode -> Disable Mode Hold reset for around two seconds to change modes. Configuration recorded... Continue reading

If you can see this post, it means I managed to get the website working sufficiently well under WordPress on a Raspberry Pi 2. I’d used FlatPress for a while, but I was missing some of the great WordPress features… errr, well I mean: drop-down category and archive menus in... Continue reading

Just leaving this here as a reminder for myself… I’ve been looking into SGDK, the Sega Genesis Development Kit, which allows you to write software for the Sega Mega Drive / Genesis using C. Much easier than having to write absolutely everything in Motorola 68000 assembly, or at least that’s... Continue reading

I’ve got a 21.5-inch Mid 2011 Apple iMac here for a hard drive replacement, so I thought I’d record the process while I’m at it. This particular job is being done for a charity, and it’s a good opportunity to show what goes on inside one of these machines. I’m... Continue reading

This is the Mayumi 4 installation I used with a PIC12F629 on an SCPH-7502 PlayStation with a PU-22 motherboard. There are eight solder points in this installation. The mode sequence I recorded for this PIC12F629 build on the SCPH-750x / PU-22 setup was: Strongest Mode -> Old Modchip Mode ->... Continue reading

I’ve received a whole bunch of 27C040 EPROMs for my Super Nintendo development cartridge, and that means it’s time for another attempt at getting EarthBound running. Each chip holds 512 KB, so six of them should be enough for the game’s 3 MB ROM. The development board is an SHVC-8PV5B-01,... Continue reading
