Here’s the Aiwa Mega-CD CSD-GM1 I’ll be attempting to repair over the coming weeks, months, or simply whenever I find the time.

I figured I’d start with a video of the inside of the radio, cassette and CD section because this particular unit is heavily damaged.

I actually have two CSD-GM1s.

This one has major physical damage and initially had no power at all.

The other unit powers up and is considerably more functional, but it has trouble reading CDs. At this stage I suspected the optical pickup, although cleaning and further diagnosis should come before declaring a laser dead.

That suspicion eventually proved useful. I later replaced the KSS-210B optical pickup and got the CD mechanism reading again.

For now though, there is plenty of work to do before this damaged machine gets anywhere near that point.
