My third and final Sega Saturn Sophia development kit is in need of repair. This one is another European SG4101, serial H417010020, and just like the previous machine, it powers on without producing any video. Unfortunately, this Sophia has also suffered some cosmetic damage. There’s a mark on the casing... Continue reading

Another Sega Saturn Sophia development kit in need of attention! This time it’s a European SG4101 unit, serial H417010070, which runs directly from our local mains supply without needing the rather enormous voltage transformer I use with the Japanese machine. That’s one less enormous box to have cluttering up the... Continue reading

There are only three electrolytic capacitors visible on the mainboard section I’m working on… but that doesn’t stop me! There are more components hiding around the power and RF circuitry, so this isn’t a complete recap. I thought I’d give the NES a little preventative maintenance while everything was apart.... We delve a little deeper into the NES and have a look at that rather unusual cartridge connector. It’s certainly an interesting arrangement compared with the cartridge slots found in most other consoles! After removing the loading mechanism, I can finally get at the contacts properly and give everything a... Continue reading

Just some poking around inside a Nintendo Entertainment System! The good old PAL-A Mattel variety sold in Australia. I’ve spent plenty of time with Sega hardware, so I thought it was about time to see what Nintendo had been hiding underneath all that grey plastic. How complicated could it possibly... Dead Angle began as a 1988 arcade shooter developed by Seibu Kaihatsu. FabTek handled the North American arcade release, but the 1989 Master System conversion was reprogrammed and published by Sega. Funnily enough, this is not a Light Phaser game! It uses the control pad instead. This is an arcade... Continue reading

The NES version of Snow Bros. is based on Toaplan’s arcade game. MobyGames credits Sol Corporation with the NES port, and Capcom published the North American release in 1991. This LXR was built by SuperNick (Nick) from the XRG channel, and he did a pretty good job of it. There are more solder points than a solar-powered hat! In all honesty, I just like drum machines for the clap noise they can make… I’m simple like that. Related posts... Continue reading

This is why planning is needed. Hopefully, anyone else replicating this will leave out all the extra speed holes. It’s already loaded with Blast Processing! :P Making a clock out of a Sega Mega Drive II seemed like a wonderful idea. Unfortunately, I discovered that drilling holes in the right... This was part of the 1,000-subscriber celebration video, but it somehow got lost during editing! Recorded with an iPhone… you can see why I don’t normally record with an iPhone! Muhahaha! :P Here’s a little bit of bonus footage that didn’t quite make it into the original celebration. Today we’re... Continue reading

And this is why my videos have been so spotty since December. I’m still between homes, with all my cool things packed away in boxes. I have managed a few repairs, though, and those videos should be appearing over the next few weeks. Continue reading

Here’s a video from a recent rubbish collection. I wish there had been more to go through, but at least I found some cool things to play with! What’s the best thing you’ve found in something somebody else had thrown away? The local council rubbish collection is always an interesting... Continue reading

There sure is a lot of stuff! I recorded this back in December 2013, before a large downsizing of the collection. A new update will have to be done in the next few months! First things first, take a look at those magnificent curtains! They’ve got a lovely flared look... Continue reading
