Time for a bit of Space Harrier on the Sega Mega Drive 32X!
Space Harrier originally appeared in the arcades back in 1985, and the 32X received a rather impressive conversion in 1994. Sega’s short-lived little add-on might not have had the longest commercial life, but it certainly had some interesting games.
The original arcade game was all about flying into the screen, blasting enemies and avoiding whatever happened to be coming your way. Lots of colourful sprites, scaling effects and general chaos. Just the sort of thing that makes for a good demonstration of what the 32X could do.
I’ve had my fair share of adventures getting Mega Drive and 32X hardware to cooperate over the years. At least this time we’re looking at a game instead of another circuit board!
