This video was more or less put together for my own reference while trying to get the Sega Mega-CD development cards working on a Pentium III 800 MHz system. Electrically, the setup appeared compatible as far as I could tell. Physically, I simply did not have a PC case large enough for all that development-card absurdity.

So we worked our way down the food chain to a Pentium 100 MHz. What’s that? Now it doesn’t work properly at all? Bah!

Moving down the chain even further brought us to the humble 486DX4-100. It works a charm. Throw in a Gravis UltraSound and you’ve got quite a workstation!

Later testing showed that one Pentium-class motherboard could be made to cooperate when I disabled the CPU’s internal cache in BIOS, although I never established why. So host compatibility clearly involved more than simply asking whether the PC was fast enough.
