Sega Saturn Sophia Programming Box Mainboard Repairs

I’ve replaced most of the capacitors on the mainboard and this video is the result. Needless to say, the result is very promising. There are still some more to replace on the mainboard. The Hakko 808 works wonders on these old boards.

After all the work sunk into this unit so far, it appears that the issue was with the mainboard caps. Looking forward to replacing the remaining caps in the coming weeks when they come off backorder!

I am very happy with the results so far. There are some issues with the laser as we already knew from previous testing the CD deck on a VA0 retail Saturn. I’ll look into this further once the additional capacitors are replaced. Probably should look into replacing the capacitors on the power supply boards…
