As you can see, the Sega Mega-CD Karaoke Unit and the microphone I repaired earlier are both still working nicely.

My neighbours may have a different opinion.

The Karaoke Unit is designed for CD+G discs, where the audio CD also carries simple graphics data used for things such as synchronised lyrics.

Naturally this means you can now listen to the fantastic noise that is me singing along with some grunge and punk tracks.

The material I started with was in MP3+G form, with the audio and karaoke graphics stored separately.

I used Power CD+G Burner 1.4.6 under Windows XP to turn those files into a CD+G disc that the Mega-CD setup could actually play.

The hardware itself provides considerably more than a microphone socket, including effects and controls intended specifically for karaoke use.

I really wish my Karaoke Unit wasn’t boxed so I could leave it displayed alongside the Mega Drive and Mega-CD all the time.
