I have nothing but praise for the Sakura Wars franchise. I had previously played the original Sakura Wars (1996) on my Sega Saturn thanks to the translation patch, so jumping to the PS4 game left a very large gap in my Sakura education.

This one is not a remake of the 1996 game. It is a later entry set in the series’ alternate-history 1940s Tokyo, with Seijuro Kamiyama taking command of a new Imperial Combat Revue Flower Division. They are soldiers and theatre performers fighting demons, not secret Edo-period ninjas, despite whatever my memory was trying to tell me here. The battles are much faster and more action-oriented than the Saturn original, while the theatre, steam-powered machinery and supernatural nonsense still feel very Sakura Wars.

On that topic, the playlist at the top of this post includes all the live streams. I hope you enjoy watching me power through the story in my mechanised spirit armour.

Earlier: Sakura Wars (PS4 Live Stream, Chapter 1)
Earlier still: Sakura Taisen (Saturn Live Stream, Episode 1)
