Another 5.25-inch floppy drive, another adventure! This time I’ve got a Mitsumi Newtronics 1.2 MB drive that’s been giving me all sorts of trouble. It’s not reading properly, and I’m beginning to wonder whether the thing is ever going to cooperate.

After a little more investigation, I discover that the edge connector isn’t quite lined up correctly. A slight misalignment, and apparently that’s enough to cause all this trouble! Once I correct the connection, would you believe it? The drive starts working!

Things are looking rather promising, so I go ahead and format a floppy disk. Success! With the disk formatted, I transfer `COMMAND.COM` and the other system files across. It’s all going beautifully, and for a moment there I think we’ve actually got ourselves a functioning floppy drive.

And then, right at the end of the video, it stops working again! Haha! Apparently I was celebrating a little too early. The drive had managed to format a disk and copy files, but that doesn’t mean the underlying problem was permanently resolved.

Oh well. At least we got to see the thing work for a little while! Perhaps the next troublesome floppy drive will be more cooperative. I wouldn’t bet on it, though!
