Flicky! A female Floury Baker cicada (Aleeta curvicosta) with badly damaged wings. Flying wasn’t going to happen, but I wanted to do what I could to keep her comfortable. I already knew the species before finding her. This was the beginning of ten rather memorable days with a little cicada.
Looking a little closer at her wings, whatever had attacked her had taken about half the hind wing on one side and half the forewing on the other, along with a little bit of the remaining forewing. She’d certainly been through something, and I found myself looking at her and asking, “What do we do with you? What do we do?”
I didn’t really know the answer at that point. But with flying out of the question, I wanted to see what I could do for the little one.
