After I nuked my SNES EarthBound save, I realised that backing up saves might be a good idea.

I also discovered that being tethered to the television for half a week while playing EarthBound day and night was not necessarily ideal.

So I finished it on my Nintendo DS Lite instead.

I did not record the emulator name in this 2013 post.

Years later, in 2022, I found the old save files again and was able to identify the setup as SNEmulDS.

Those surviving saves dated back to around October 2013 and included Ness and company at roughly levels 75 and 97.

So at least some of the save-game history I thought I had lost eventually resurfaced.

The emulator was not perfect.

The music could be glitchy.

But it was good enough for me to complete the entire game on a handheld.

Here is the ending to EarthBound, completed at perhaps 3 or 4 am on a weekday.

Wow!
