I’ve had so much fun trying to find the right holder that, at the end of all this, I’m probably going to just use regular tabbed CR2032 / BR2032 cells! :)

The earlier holder didn’t have enough clearance inside the cartridge shell. Check holder height and shell clearance before soldering it in. For a tabbed replacement, check the battery type, tab layout and polarity against the cartridge.
