This video might be a little out of order as I am sure I have already uploaded all the Sega Dreamcast development kit videos a while back. Better on the internet than disposed of I suppose!

Have you ever wondered where the name Set 5.24 comes from? Well, I’ve spotted something interesting on my Dreamcast development hardware. Down on the floor, alongside a few other machines that really deserve some attention, is the rather magnificent development unit itself.

The label on top appears to carry the Set 5.24 designation, along with another number that looks like a serial number. That might explain part of the naming, although I certainly wouldn’t claim to understand Sega’s entire development-kit revision system from one sticker!

There’s plenty to look at around the back too. We’ve got video and audio connections, a collection of other ports, the power input and a fuse. The power-supply label also indicates a fairly wide input-voltage range, which is handy for a machine that might find itself travelling between Japan and Australia.

And look at that little fold-out stand! Such a complicated piece of hardware, yet somebody still thought to give it a neat way of standing up.

I’ve also got a Dreamcast function-check controller nearby, which is another wonderful piece of equipment I’d like to investigate properly. There are quite a few things in this corner of the room that deserve their own videos.

For now, it’s just a quick look at some of the labels and connections. We’ll get back to the more interesting internals another time!
