Today I just couldn’t help myself.

I opened up the PAL VA0 Dreamcast and took some proper photographs of the internals.

It is definitely a VA0 board. There is no ambiguity there.

PAL VA0 machines genuinely exist, although they are much less commonly documented than PAL VA1 consoles.

This particular machine is especially interesting because its April 1999 shell date predates the European launch on 14 October 1999. The display-only label adds another clue that it may have had some sort of non-standard pre-launch or demonstration history.

I still do not know exactly what that history was.

Now I want to compare it properly with a Japanese VA0 and a US VA0.

What actually changed between the regional versions?

And how many PAL VA0 units are still out there?

Probably not many!
