Just a quick video for anyone who has never removed the socketed processor from an LC 475 or one of the closely related machines.

The CPU is removable rather than soldered directly to the logic board, which makes swapping the original 68LC040 for a full 68040 relatively straightforward compared with some of my other CPU experiments.

That does not mean it is worth getting careless.

Work slowly and lift the processor as evenly as possible so the pins are not bent and the socket or surrounding board is not damaged.

I’ve done this enough times that I was perhaps a little more casual in the video than I would recommend as general technique.

The reason I was removing it this time was not merely curiosity.

I had specifically bought a full 68040 to replace the LC 475’s original FPU-less 68LC040.

That upgrade leads directly into the next experiment: 33 MHz.
