I’ve been digging through some of my old things and came across this rather interesting multi-purpose gadget called the Navir Super Optic Wonder. It’s something MacGyver might have used, assuming MacGyver was particularly fond of the colour red!

This thing has quite an assortment of features. We’ve got a torch, whistle, compass, sundial, mirror, binoculars and what appears to be Morse code!

Unfortunately, the original battery had been sitting inside for something like twenty years and had leaked everywhere. After cleaning up the contacts, I managed to get the torch working again. The whistle works too! Sorry, neighbours!

There’s also a little sundial, although trying to use one indoors isn’t particularly productive. The gadget separates into two pieces, revealing a compass and a pair of binoculars. Well, a monocular now, since one side has broken off over the years!

And then there’s the mirror, presumably so you can admire how beautiful you are while lost in the wilderness. I don’t really need one of those, of course. I’ve got plenty of inner beauty!

The whole thing was made in Italy, which I thought was rather interesting. There’s even a little hook so you can wear it around your neck. Very handy!

From memory this came from my mum’s parents when I was young. So long ago now!
