My Sega Master System sits on the shelf unrepaired, but the controller? We can fix that! Button 2 was behaving very badly, so we whipped out some metho and gave it a good scrub down.

I was thinking about those shiny metal contacts versus carbon pads, and all the corrosion and GUNK that can get in the way of a working button! I even wondered if a pencil eraser might give them the perfect finish, just like on cartridge pins. That last thought was not good general cleaning advice: inspect the contact materials, clean conductive rubber or carbon pads gently rather than scrubbing them like metal cartridge contacts, and let everything dry before reassembly.
