These two look like they were separated at birth.

This is my first comparison between an ordinary Aiwa CSD-EX80 and the boombox section of the Aiwa Mega-CD CSD-GM1.

Cosmetically, the similarities are extremely promising.

An initial look inside also suggests that the EX80 may be useful as a donor for at least some mechanical and cosmetic parts.

That does not mean every PCB or electrical assembly can automatically be swapped between the two machines.

At this stage it is a donor candidate, not proof of complete parts interchangeability.

Given the broken tape mechanism and damaged boards in my CSD-GM1 units, though, finding something this closely related is very good news indeed.
