Here’s a look at removing and disassembling the optical-drive assembly from a Sony PS one.

I originally said that this applied to all PlayStation lasers because they were “pretty much the same except for the flex-cable length”.

That was too broad.

Sony used several KSM-440 optical-drive variants across the original PlayStation family.

The general mechanical idea is similar, but the assemblies can differ in flex-cable length, frame shape and physical fit.

So treat this video as a demonstration of the PS one-style assembly shown here rather than a universal drop-in replacement guide for every PlayStation revision.
