The past three live streams had all suffered from audio stuttering and running at a higher pitch than they should have… whoops! On this setup the problem stopped after I forced the Inogeni USB capture device to 1080p instead of 2160p in macOS and installed the available firmware update. That’s the result I observed here rather than proof that 2160p itself was the universal cause.

There was also flickering from the Saturn setup. At this point I was considering the Saturn mainboard, Saturn PSU, OSSC and the AV connection. I ruled out my usual cable as the only explanation by trying a cheap replacement, although that cable added even more audio and video noise. Moving the plug could also tint the picture yellow, so I still suspected the AV socket or its solder joints. Later I reflowed the socket with no improvement, then recapped the VA15 Saturn and the visible flicker disappeared. That later result was useful, but it still didn’t identify one particular capacitor as the proven cause.

Technicalities aside, in this latest instalment we find the youngest of our troupe becoming a demolition expert! Yikes! A shorter chapter than normal, perhaps we’ll have some more next week! Stay tuned!
