Next up on the PSIO prototype test list is The Legend of Dragoon. I’ve heard plenty about this game, so let’s see whether we can get it running on the PlayStation. First job, remember to turn the console on. That usually helps!

The game starts loading, but unfortunately it doesn’t get very far. I wondered whether it might be trying to load a video sequence or something else the prototype wasn’t handling properly, although that’s just a possibility at this stage.

I tried rebooting and pressing a few buttons to see whether I could skip past the troublesome section. No luck there either. It seems determined to stop at much the same point, no matter how much encouragement I give it.

Then I tried the European version as well, hoping for a different result. Unfortunately, that was just as uneventful as the American one. So much for that idea!

This is still very early prototype hardware, with PSIO 1.1 and software 1.1A, so I’m not particularly surprised that some games have difficulties. It would be nice to see this one progressing further, but for now The Legend of Dragoon is a no-go in my tests.

You can hit up ps-io.com if you have any questions, since I’m but a mere tester. I don’t understand the technology behind this wonderful invention!
