Nix McRetro
Today was the big day: I gave live streaming a test with the shiny new Fallout 4. Unfortunately, the roughly 1 Mbps uplink on this ADSL connection simply isn’t enough for much beyond 360p. Maybe 480p if I’m really lucky.
We were expecting NBN availability in this area sometime in early 2016. What I expected locally was a 25/5 service, lifting the upload side from about 1 Mbps to about 5 Mbps. I’d been hoping for 40 Mbps up, so five still sounded disappointing.
That 25/5 figure was the service I expected here, not an NBN-wide ceiling. Higher 50/20 and 100/40 tiers existed, though actual speeds depended on the line and service.
What a disappointment. Good job Australia. 25/5 for the next 10, maybe 50 years? Girt by sea and run by those in the ID-10t club.
