TSOP40 Flash Chips – Fakes and Counterfeits

Does the above image look like an AMD AM29F032B? Think again! Oh wait, the GQ-4X4 actually identifies it properly. It’s an ST Micro M29F032D TSOP40 chip disguised as an AMD AM29F032B. Genius! Pin compatible so it doesn’t affect me too much.

Above is the real McCoy. Genuine even down to the chip level, which was sort of expected given the chip is genuine and it’s a chip… at any rate they both work well with the TSOP to Willem adapter for writing SNES ROMs via the GQ-4X / GQ-4X4 programmer. I don’t know why the counterfeiters would even bother silkscreening AMD onto them, ST Micro isn’t that bad!
